Coffee has brewed up a massive competition between Tim Hortons and McDonald’s, with the latter making a new big move.
Earlier this year, many Vancouverites were disappointed to learn that McDonald’s would not roll out its all-day breakfast menu in Canada, but little did we know that it was all a part of their plan to introduce a separate breakfast venture.
On Wednesday December 9, McDonald’s launched its first standalone McCafe, a coffee shop that serves select breakfast items all day long. This includes all coffees, fruit smoothies, wraps, baked goods, salads, and also the Egg McMuffin sandwich. The new shop is 1 of 2 scheduled for Toronto, and if successful, will branch out to more locations across Canada, including Vancouver.
Dropping the greasy burgers and fries and operating under the McCafe banner will allow McDonald’s to go head-to-head with Tim Hortons over coffee, the top selling fast food item in Canada.
