Alcohol and food in abundance. I’m not like the other guys—I won’t tell you not to drink. Let’s face it: what good is looking good if you can’t enjoy your life? “I won’t drink at my brother’s wedding because I don’t want to get fat.” There are ways to enjoy a few drinks and prevent a full blown destruction of your health.
I ensure that I am hydrated. I drink water prior to drinking, during, and the next morning. I also have an electrolyte drink (Gatorade or Powerade) in the morning, and Vitamin C. Next, I avoid sugar with my drinks, as I want to keep calories low, and hangovers at bay. Diet soda is always an option. Soda water is great. Tonic water is horrible. Lime juice is perfect.
What to drink? In my case, I want more alcohol, and less calories—so I drink straight vodka or whiskey. Vodka packs about 70 calories per ounce, and Jack Daniels packs about 60. For those of you who are not fans of drinking the rough way, mix with diet soda, or soda water. White wine, Rose, and champagne can be decent choices, as they provide about 20 calories per ounce.
Examples:
- Vodka or Whiskey w/ diet soda;
- Vodka with lime juice and club soda;
- Spritzers made with your favourite wine.
Enjoy responsibly and don’t drink and drive!
