On Wednesday, September 16, you’ll get the chance to visit the flagship of the Japanese Maritime Defense Forces Training Squadron— the JS Kashima.
Visiting the JS Kashima in North Vancouver
The JS Kashima is a training ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It was built during the mid-1990s, with its unique design being referred to as the “Kashima class cadet training ship.”
The Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver made an announcement on social media recently, inviting locals to check out the impressive ship for one day only.

The public viewing will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm on September 16. You’ll be able to find the ship located at Burrard Dry Dock Pier in North Vancouver.
Do note that the viewings are done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Although, that means no pre-registration is required to visit. Adults are required to bring a piece of photo ID prior to boarding, and children must be accompanied by an adult with photo ID. Also, no large bags are allowed.
Head down to North Vancouver for this unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the JS Kashima.
