Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flight attendants are poised to vote next week on whether or not they will strike. This comes after a deadlock between Air Canada and said flight attendants in an inconclusive conciliation process with mediators.
UNION TALKS
The union that represents 10,000 of Air Canada’s flight attendants says that “key issues remain unsolved” after the aforementioned conciliation process. This includes problems regarding lacking compensation and unpaid labour.

As noted by the union, entry-level full-time flight attendant salaries are $1,951 per month. Moreover, Air Canada flight attendants are required to perform a variety of unpaid duties, which are reportedly allowed by a loophole in the Canada Labour Code.
The union notes things like pre-flight safety inspections, as well as boarding and deplaning passengers, as being part of a flight attendant’s uncompensated labour.
THE VOTE
“Our role as your Union is to negotiate a deal that you deserve, one that reflects your value, your work, and your sacrifices. That means nothing less than an industry-leading contract, and we will not settle for less,” said the union.
If the vote succeeds, then Air Canada’s flight attendants strike could begin August 16, 2025. Voting will officially open from Monday, July 28 until August 5, 2025.
“This is your moment to be heard, to stand with your colleagues and harness our collective power. This is where our strength lies and this is how we will show the company that we are united, serious, and will accept nothing less than the contract we deserve.”
