If there’s one thing all Metro Vancouvertires can agree on, it’s that gas prices are way too high. Even if you drive something that’s fairly good on fuel, you’ve still felt the effects of the nearly $2 per litre prices before. And let’s not even mention if you drive a real gas-guzzler.
With the Canada Day weekend coming up, many folks around the Lower Mainland are preparing for their celebratory plans. If you’re someone who’s going to be hitting the road, then you’ll be glad to hear that gas prices are expected to drop before Canada Day.
DROPPING PRICES AND TENSIONS
Although tensions were high last week in the Middle East, they appear to be easing off slightly. In turn, Metro Vancouver gas prices have also begun to ease and drop.

While prices remained at around $1.70/L near the beginning of the week, prices have since lowered. GasWizard reports a drop of 8 cents compared to Wednesday. Although they are expected to rise on Friday, it is by a negligible 2 cents for regular and 1 cent for premium.
GasBuddy also reports a low of $1.56/L at the cheapest gas stations in Vancouver. All the lowest prices remain in the mid to high $1.50 range as of Thursday.

As long as tensions in the Middle East continue to de-escalate, prices should hopefully continue dropping. But there’s no telling how long prices will remain in this fairly acceptable range.
OPTIMIZING COSTS
To optimize your gas costs, follow a few of these tips.
It’s always best to fill up later in the day. Anytime after 6 p.m. is optimal as prices generally drop in the evenings. Additionally, try to wait for the weekend to save even more on the litre. You can also be proactive in your gas hunt by using websites such as GasWizard and GasBuddy to check what the best prices will be and currently are.
Enjoy the lowering gas prices while you can! Now is the best time to fill up and hit the road, especially with the Canada Day weekend coming up.
