A massive Surrey barge fire continues to fill Metro Vancouver’s skies this morning.
While the source of the fire is near at an industrial site near the Pattullo Bridge, people across Metro Vancouver are reporting that they smell chemical smoke.
The massive plumes reach over 100 feet high. In fact, even residents in Maple Ridge captured images of smoke from the blaze.
At 8 AM on August 10th, Metro Vancouver alerted citizens to stay inside if they encountered smoke from the blaze. Moreover, they advise residents to close windows and doors to reduce indoor pollution.

The cutting chemical smell is cased by a pile of scrap cars that caught fire on the barge. As a result, people that experience symptoms from the smoke should contact their doctor.
As plumes of smoke continue to fill the air, residents are taking to social media to share images of the blaze.

Authorities have responded to the fire, and there no injuries or deaths have been reported. Apparently, crews are containing the blaze, and therefore the smoke is turning white.
