What Should Richmond Do With A Vacant 55.2 Hectares?

Anybody who either lives in Richmond or has driven into Richmond before, has probably noticed that large, vacant space of land that is bordered by Westminister Highway, Garden City Way, Alderbridge Way and No. 4 Road.

The piece of land was purchased by the city in 2010 from the federal government for $59.1 million, who is now asking the citizens of Richmond to help them decide what should be done with the huge piece of land (55.2 hectares to be exact)

In the past the land was used for purposes such as:

  • a rifle range
  • a World War I military training site
  • home for coast guard radio

Personally, with that area of Richmond being on the busier side, we feel the possibilities for this site are endless really, it would be nice to see nature preserved and some sort of park landscape with walking trails. On the other hand, don’t be surprised if the land gets used for commercial use or housing.
