If you were anywhere near the Croatian Cultural Centre on October 11, you may have heard the sound of 800 people singing, clapping, and dancing along to one of the most electric Punjabi music events Vancouver has seen in 2025. The much-anticipated Mehfil Band concert was completely sold out, bringing together a crowd that spanned generations – from parents reliving the songs they grew up with to kids discovering them for the first time. In fact, it was the first show to achieve such an artist since the Diljit Dosanjh concert in 2024.
Mehfil Band
For those who haven’t heard of them yet, Mehfil Band is a four-piece group that’s quickly redefining Punjabi music in North America. Made up of Raja (vocals), Jashan (mandolin), Kabir (tabla/esraj), and Palli (guitar), the band blends the raw soul of traditional Punjabi classics with the energy of modern pop — think Surinder Kaur meets Karan Aujla in the same set.
“The Vancouver show marked a powerful finale to Mehfil Band’s Canada-wide tour, their largest performance in North America to date,” said Bobby Locham, who’s company organized the Canadian tour.
“The response was electric, reaffirming the band’s growing influence and the deep connection they’ve built with audiences across the country. While the demand for larger venues is undeniable, the team behind Mehfil Band remains intentional about preserving the intimacy and authenticity that define their shows. The next chapter will be about growth – but growth with purpose.”

That authenticity is what Mehfil Band is all about. Over the past five years, they’ve built their reputation on live, stripped-down performances where the audience can literally feel every pluck of the mandolin, hit of the tabla, and strum of the guitar. It’s the kind of concert experience that feels more like a jam session with friends than a massive production, and that’s exactly the point.
From dance hits by Jazzy B to folk ballads and modern Punjabi pop, the setlist was a musical bridge between generations. For many in the crowd, it wasn’t just a concert, it was a cultural homecoming.
If the band’s first local show was any sign, Mehfil Band’s story is only getting started and Vancouver might need a bigger venue next time.
