Metrotown is about to go in full bloom.

For the first time ever, a floral installation of 10,000 tulips will live at Metrotown. The I Heart Tulips event is taking place in support of Variety – the Children’s Charity on January 26.

The creators of the wildly popular Chilliwack Tulip Festival will bring this event to life as an enormous display of red and white tulips will take over Metrowtown’s Grand Court.

Sponsored by Onos Greenhouses Ltd., along with Tulips of the Valley, the installation will be made into the shape of a red heart surrounded by white, for a beautiful display.

You’ll be able to see the awe-inspiring tulips from all three levels of the mall from 10am to 1pm. From 1pm to 1:30pm, children supported by the Children’s Charity, will be invited to pick the tulips.

After 1:30pm, the public will get their chance to take their pick of the tulips to bring home. A minimum donation $5 for five tulips, with all proceeds going to Variety – the Children’s Charity, will apply.

The event will continue until all of the 10,000 tulips have been picked.

The event will also include a tulip selfie stand, photo frames, and the opportunity to take pictures with Tilly, the tulip mascot.

There will also be pre-cut tulips available for flower-pickers, by donation. All of the tulips will be available for wrapping for convenience.

As well, visitors will be invited to enter a draw to win tickets to the 2019 Chilliwack Tulip Festival, taking place in April.

“This event perfectly pairs both the charity and the flower in a one-day event for a very worthy cause. I hope people ‘heart’ it!” said Kate Onos-Gilbert, co-founder of Tulips of the Valley.
