Transport Canada has just issued a major recall, affecting nearly 100,000 vehicles across Canada. Due to a software malfunction, these vehicles are potentially non-compliant with Canadian regulations, as well as having an increased risk of crashing.
Owners are being advised on the corrective actions they may take in order to mitigate these issues.
Software Malfunctions
This recall affects 99,178 vehicles across Canada.
“Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image to freeze or not to display,” states Transport Canada. “If this happens, the rearview image may not display when the transmission is shifted into reverse.” Notably, Canadian regulations mandate rearview images to be displayed when a vehicle is reversing.
An incorrect rearview camera display can reduce a driver’s ability to see while backing up. This can then lead to an increased risk of crash.
