Vancouver is home to a lot of magnificent outdoor arts.
While some will you make you turn your head and look twice, there’s some that will make you scratch your head. One of the city’s latest installations falls under the latter.
Right off East 51st Avenue outside the Sunset Community Centre is the new “SeeSawSeat” – a $30,000 project.
According to a news release, the installation is designed to transform the experience of “Waiting for the bus is from a passive pause into a modest social activity”. It also aims to encourage people “not just to talk, but to engage and work together”.

The idea of the “SeeSawSeat” was created by the City of Vancouver’s in-house artist, Germaine Koh, and funded by the city, Transport Canada, and by TransLink. It was approved back in 2016.
In total, the project cost was $30,580 in total. A pricing breakdown shows funds were mainly spent on the concrete footing, rubber surfacing, the bench, and signage.
