‘Tis the season! As winter rapidly approaches and the darkness of night creeps in earlier than usual, Richmond will be illuminated with 250,000 holiday lights around the city.
Nearly 4,400 LED light strings will be placed around Richmond and operate through a scheduled timer which will automatically turn on from 4:30pm to 8:00 am until early January, 2016.
The colorful lights will aim to brighten up the city and bring holiday joy to residents and tourists alike.
4,355 LED light strings will be hung throughout Richmond in the following areas:
- 3,698 strings in the City Centre
- 231 strings at Britannia Heritage Shipyards, National Historic Site
- 28 strings in fishing nets along Moncton Street, from Seventh Avenue to No. 1 Road
- 15 strings at Steveston Museum and Visitor Centre
- 253 strings at Steveston Park and the Steveston Interurban Tram Building
- 100 strings on the tin shed in front of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, located at Moncton Street and Third Avenue
- 30 strings at the Works Yard
In addition to the light strings, there will also be several holiday themed LED attractions across Richmond including:
- 8 illuminated deer in the City Centre
- 15 illuminated globes on the heritage tree in the north west City Hall parking lot
- 19 snowfall icicle displays hanging near the Cultural Centre plaza
- Animated 8’ tall street pole fixtures: 32 along No. 3 Road north of Granville Avenue to Firbridge Way and four along Granville Avenue between No. 3 Road and Minoru Boulevard
Vancouver also has it’s fair share of lighting displays, including Bright Nights in Stanley Park, and Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
