It takes a lot to get the fashionistas of Vancouver out of the city but utter the word “Target” and their interest is peaked. Utter the words “3.1 Phillip Lim for Target”, however, and they will flock to the suburbs at 6:45am on a cloudy September Sunday. I arrived at the Langley Target not 5 minutes after opening and already shoppers had piles of clothes hung over their arms and the racks were looking very bare! Hey, this shows I’m not the only one crazy enough to drive miles in the name of fashion. At this point I would like to take the opportunity to thank my boyfriend for getting up at this ungodly hour, listening to my poor navigational skills, and being patient as I stood in shock and awe at the beautiful clothes and accessories.
In his fall collection for the store, Phillip Lim definitely had a particular girl in mind – one who doesn’t take herself too seriously and likes to have some fun with her wardrobe. The clothes are elegant and sophisticated, yet easy to wear and unfussy. Seriously, each piece in the collection compliments the other so well and adds a unique statement to anyone’s closet.
My favourite piece of the 3.1 Phillip Lim’s collection at Target is definitely the cheetah print wrap dress with hints of navy in the pattern. This classic piece is simple enough to wear casually with a pair of boots and a floppy hat for weekends or dressed up with a pair of heels for the office. Another part of the collection worth lusting over is his skirts in various patterns. The cut is universally flattering, sitting high on the hips and flaring out just above the knee. Again, the designer was able to create a piece that could be worn both on weekends and during the work week.
A very modern and daring piece of the Target collection is the skirt/sweater combo. Yes, it’s one piece! Leave it to Lim to find a practical way to wear this fall 2013 runway hit! Tres chic and oh so comfy!
Finally, when I arrived at the Langley location, all the accessories were sold out already – I couldn’t even believe it! The bags are stunning and I was really looking forward to picking one up in grey. But alas, this just means this Vancouver fashionista will have to trek back out to the suburbs when they are in stock again.
And don’t worry about the boyfriend – he was paid for his patience and driving skills in the form of an IHOP breakfast. Win-Win, I would say!
