Pattullo Bridge Is Shutting Down Southbound For Three Nights This Week

Late-night drivers heading into Surrey will want to plan ahead. The Pattullo Bridge is set to close southbound for three nights this week as crews continue work on the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project.

The full southbound closures are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, November 27 from 9 pm to 5 am

  • Friday, November 28 from 9 pm to 5 am

  • Sunday, November 30 from 9 pm to 5 am

During these hours, all southbound traffic into Surrey will be shut down, including pedestrians and cyclists pathways. Northbound travel will not be affected.

Why the Pattullo Bridge is closing

Crews are installing a large overhead directional sign along King George Boulevard, near the south end of the bridge. Heavy equipment will be blocking lanes in the area, and the province says closing both southbound lanes is the safest way to get the work done.

Bridge detours and delays

If you normally use the Pattullo Bridge to head south into Surrey overnight, you will need to detour. Drivers are being encouraged to use either the Port Mann Bridge or Alex Fraser Bridge.

The N19 NightBus will also be affected. Trips that would normally cross the Pattullo will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges between New Westminster and Scott Road Stations.

Officials say drivers and transit users should plan for up to 30 minutes of extra travel time, depending on the route and time of night. Traffic control staff and signage will be on site throughout the closures.

Anyone using transit is encouraged to check Transit Alerts and Trip Planner before heading out.

The new Pattullo Bridge will open in 4 phases this December, with a new Indigenous name.
