Following suit of some other B.C. cities, the city of New Westminster has designating a few parks to allow for outdoor drinking.
With Spring weather warming up, and restrictions still in place, there are limited activities the public can safely do. One of the most popular activities though is visiting a local park for a picnic, and being able to have a drink is definitely a plus.
The city council of New Westminster has approved the motion for the pilot program, allowing the consumption of alcohol at 7 New West parks.

The new Consumption of Liquor in Public Spaces Bylaw will be in effect starting Tuesday May 18th, just in time for the Victoria Day Long Weekend.
This will allow adults to drink responsibly in the designated zones between the hours of 11:00am and dusk, seven days a week. Signage will also be placed at each park indicating the boundaries.
Individuals who choose to drink are reminded to act responsibly and manage their consumption and waste.
In the fall, the city is hoping to reflect on the pilot program by collecting input from the community and determine whether adaptations or improvements are required for the future.
