After a devastating fire took place a New Westminster’s Pier Park, the park has now reopened and with a new playground bringing life back to this waterfront.
The fire that occurred due to arson, started on September 13 of 2020. It burned for 10 days straight before firefighters were able to fully put it out on September 24. The popular waterfront park was destroyed, the smoke from the blaze compromised air quality (making it one of the worst in the world), and residents were saddened to see this area go up in flames.
The city was thrilled to announce that 10 months later, Westminster Pier Park reopened officially on April 2, 2021.

The parts of Pier Park between Front Street and the Fraser River (which originally opened in 2012) features a 600m boardwalk, now has a beautiful new playground.

Kids were able to enjoy this area on the long weekend, bringing smiles to young New West residents.
The city is asking for visitors of the park to maintain social distancing and continue to follow COVID-19 protocols, but are encouraged to visit their new space.
Though fire destroyed, it’s nice to see that the clear skies show the beauty in Pier Park once again.
