Kitsilano Beach Was Almost Turned Into A Port in 1890

Vancouver as we know it would sure be different if Kitsilano Beach (ranked one of the best beaches in North America) was turned into a port 124 years ago.

According to Voony’s Blog, a website about local transportation, urbanism and other musings, the CPR had development plans for Kitsilano to be turned into a major facility for shipping. The idea was met with lots of opposition and never went through.

If the plan was successful, the unique neighborhood of Kitsilano would be transformed accordingly to the map below and Vancouver would likely have two ports as opposed to one.
