Fifth Avenue Cinemas Converts To 19+, Adds Restaurant + Bar

Cineplex acquired Vancouver’s Fifth Avenue Cinemas back in 2013, and is finally moving forward on its plans, including a $2 million expansion and renovation to one of Vancouver’s largest theatres.

Cineplex has expanded the theatre’s lobby by 3,500 square feet, and the overall location by 21,500 square feet after taking over the shop next door. Perhaps the theatre’s biggest change however is it’s new 19+ policy.

A part of the new expansion includes a restaurant, bar, reserved seating, and leather seats in all theatres so movie-goers can lay back and enjoy drinks before, after, and during the screening.

The recent addition of services is a game-changer for the theatre, whose focus has shifted to providing a mature movie-going experience – which isn’t too surprising considering the choice of movies screened at Fifth Avenue Cinemas has always been mature rather than kid-friendly.

To enforce their new policy, the theatre’s website has now added the following message:
“Valid Government photo ID may be requested at the theatre for admittance.”

Among other items, movie-goers will now be able to order charcuterie boards and paninis from Jackson’s Meats and Deli, desserts from Earnest Ice Cream, and beer from Dead Frog Brewery.
