Ugly Potato Day is a free community event that helps rescue hundreds of thousands of pounds of fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste. The produce comes from local farms and distributors with surplus or cosmetically imperfect fruits and vegetables that are still perfectly good to eat.
Attendees can simply stop by, pick up the produce they need, and take it home. The event also features live music, games, prizes, and giveaways, making it a fun day out for the whole family.

Ugly Potato Day 2026
What began as a small farm giveaway has grown into one of Canada’s largest food rescue events. Last year’s event welcomed more than 20,000 visitors and helped distribute nearly 490,000 pounds of rescued produce.
For 2026, the Ugly Potato Day will be returning to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 9am – 5pm. Admission is free, but guests are required to reserve a ticket in advance. Be quick though, as many slots are already fully booked.

Whether they’re too big, too small, oddly shaped, or just a little wonky, these spuds are every bit as delicious as their picture-perfect counterparts. The event shines a spotlight on reducing food waste while celebrating the beauty of imperfect produce in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
But Ugly Potato Day is about much more than potatoes.

Visitors can also browse fresh local produce, enjoy live music, connect with the community, and learn more about the importance of supporting sustainable food practices. It’s a feel-good day out that’s equal parts entertainment and education.
As food waste continues to be a growing issue, events like this remind us that appearances aren’t everything—and that plenty of nutritious food ends up being discarded simply because it doesn’t meet cosmetic standards.
