Science World After Dark turns sinister for their most spine-tingling night of the year this Halloween.
Adults 19+ are invited to explore a haunted dome filled with a bewitching brew, unsettling spectacles, and shock-worthy science. This ain’t no kids’ Halloween party. Come geek out at the gore and discover the science behind the horror.
Sinister Activities
- Sinister Science! — Get ready for jaw-dropping stunts and extreme spectacle as Drag King Vincent Rice hosts Neil E. Dee, Canada’s wildest sword swallower. From sword swallowing and machete stunts to unusual feats of strength, prepare to be amazed and perhaps a little grossed out.
- Sinister Science Talk — PhD candidate Jeffrey Yung explores the fascinating world of Forensic Entomology, the science of using insects to gather information from crime scenes. Learn how these wriggly, buzzy creatures can help investigators estimate time of death and uncover clues about what happened at a crime scene.
- Sinister Science Showcase — Meet organizations from around Vancouver that specialize in the spooky and scary. Discover the science behind fear, explore strange parts of the natural world, and get hands-on with sinister science alongside the scientists behind it. Featured organizations include SFU Centre for Forensic Research, Vancouver Police Museum, SFU Psychology, and more.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Food, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the evening, including wine, beer, alcohol-free sips, burgers and milkshakes from Triple O’s, and popcorn and snacks from the Snack Lab. The Science Store will also be open for Halloween-themed souvenirs.
This is a 19+ event; government-issued ID is required for entry. Tickets are limited, and all sales are final.
