What is the Crime Severity Index?

The Crime Severity Index (CSI) measures how serious crimes are based on police reports.

Unlike simple crime rates that count incidents, the CSI gives more weight to severe crimes, offering a better view of crime’s overall impact in different areas.

Note that the rankings in this list don’t consider crime rates affecting specific social groups or track changes in crime statistics from year to year.
