B.C. Orca’s are causing waves online after The Orca Network shared a video of northern resident orcas rubbing themselves at a beach near Campbell River.
The rare moment was caught by an amateur videographer near the Discovery Islands. The footage contains four orcas circling the beach and rubbing themselves on the stones, one by one.
The behavior is reportedly very unique to north resident orca whales and hard to study. Some scientists state it’s unclear why the whales exhibit this behavior while others believe it’s a habit passed down from generations.
