Residents of Surrey’s Sullivan Heights neighbourhood are divided over what to do about some local fowl.
While there is no exact figure, and it may vary from time to time, reports say 40 – 150 peacocks reside in the area. As a result, many people consider the birds a nuisance.
For one thing, they leave droppings everywhere. In fact, their excrement covers some areas so much that children find it difficult or unsanitary to play outside.
Further, neighbours say that they emit an incredibly loud noise. They whoop and scream at all hours of the day, and sometimes as early as 3 am.

Surrey Peacocks
Due to the chaos caused by the birds, a local man decided to cut down a tree that housed over 100 of the creatures. Parm Brar, the homeowner, said it was a major issue for his family.
For over three years, Brar pleaded with the city for assistance; however, no one responded with aid.
Regardless, the City of Surrey originally handed Brar a fine of $1,000 for cutting the tree down without a permit. And, Brar and the individuals who cut down the tree might now face fines of up to $10,000.
With that in mind, many residents enjoy the colourfully feathered flock. In fact, some describe them as majestic, or even royal. Of course, they are beautiful, and somewhat of a novelty in Surrey.
The City of Surrey is currently looking into ways to relocate the unwelcome creatures. Although they don’t have any solid plans, a council member said that the city may help move the birds to a sanctuary in Langley.
Do you think that residents should just let the peacocks reside in peace? Or, do you think that the city ought to relocate the birds? Should Brar not have cut down the tree that housed the flock?
