Kent

Kent is a small, charming district that’s made up of about 6,000 people.

Its major town, Agassiz, provides spectacular views of Mount Cheam, as well as being surrounded by mountains and bodies of water on both sides.

Agassiz was a popular stopover point for settlers in the 1800’s, especially during the gold rush of the Fraser Canyon. The first business exchange took place along the Harrison River, between the Hudson’s Bay Company and the locals.

In 1889, what’s today known as the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre was established as one of the first five experimental farms in Canada – meant to help new settlers acclimatize with the new area.

Soon after, in 1895, the Canadian Pacific Railway made its first appearance, which provided Kent with booming business and an upwards movement on economic prosperity.

Present Day

Its steady growth from just a few businesses to a small community that welcomes tourists and new residents has proved Kent is more than just a town, it’s a lifestyle.

Today, it has an abundance of versatile activities for both locals and tourists, offering up boating, fishing, mountain biking, hang gliding, hiking, and much more.

Kent has a thriving agricultural sector. They proudly displays it through their weekly Farmers Market, which has a “Make It, Bake It, Grow It” theme.

They also have an annual Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival and Fall Fair and Corn Festival, complete with logger sports, lawnmower races, antique tractor pulls, and much more!

All of that aside, what Kent succeeds in more than anything is its unparalleled scenic views of the Fraser Valley. Spend a whole day here and see for yourself!
