Translink recently announced that they were adding 32 double decker buses to their Metro Vancouver fleet by 2019. Now, they are planning to roll out 80 new cars by 2020 to both Canada Line and SkyTrain networks.
After breaking records in back to back years, the company has recognized the need for more trains to accommodate the growing number of riders.
The additions are coming three years earlier than expected. In fact, 28 new Expo and Millennium line cars will be in use by the start 2019. Following that, Translink plans to add an additional 28 by the end of the year.

Skytrain Capacity Growth
“The Expo Line’s capacity will grow by 10 per cent, he said. The Millennium Line’s capacity will increase by 23 per cent, while the Canada Line will see up to 30 per cent growth,” reports CBC News.
The cost for these additions? the total project will come close to $300 million, funded through TransLink as well as the Government of British Columbia and federal governments.
Translink is also considering putting bathrooms in at some of their stations. At this time, the Seabus is only public transit station in the lower mainland that has a public washroom. While the others have the facilities, they are strictly for staff use.
