It will be named the AMS Student Nest.
This was decided in March this year. It was either going to be named this, or called the AMS Student Hub.
It is set to open in April 2015.
Construction for the new SUB began in June 2012.
It will be 5 stories high.

The new SUB will be energy efficient.
According to the architect, Dialog Design, the new SUB has been designed to minimize consumption, with natural ventilation and daylight included in the design of the building.
It will be 250,000 square feet in size.
This is 50 percent more than the size of the existing SUB. It was designed to be able to meet the needs of UBC’s current student population, which stands at 40,000+ students.
There will be an expanded PIT Pub.
Hopefully this means shorter queues during Pit nights.
There will be more food.
40,000 square feet of space in the new SUB will be set aside for food and retail. A community kitchen and The Perch, the AMS’ new restaurant will also be housed in the new SUB.

There will be spaces for almost everything.
This includes space for recreation, club offices, and books. There will be a dance studio and daycare center there as well.
It cost $107 million to build.
It is partly funded by a hike in student tuition fees.
The new SUB boasts a rock climbing wall, a theatre, and a rooftop kitchen.
The SUB will offer different kinds of entertainment all year long. The rooftop kitchen is sure to be a hit during the summer.
There will be more study spaces for students.
The more, the better. Here’s a list of the top current study spaces on campus.

The old SUB will undergo construction when the new SUB opens.
It will be converted into the UBC Student Life building, and will house counseling, health, and academic programs for UBC students.
These sure look good–we can’t wait until the new SUB opens.
