Travel Advisory: France
According to the federal government, “Large scale demonstrations have taken place across [France] since late September 2026. Further demonstrations are planned in several cities on October 31 and November 5.”
The massive protests are reportedly led by students, who are rallying against the country’s education system, as well as rising living costs. Now nationwide, the protests involve not only students, but also teachers, political organizations, parents, and trade unions.

Travellers should be aware that security measures, as well as partial or localized curfews, may be imposed on short notice.
“Security forces may use crowd-control measures, including tear gas, to disperse crowds. The demonstrations may lead to disruptions to public services and transportation before, during and after they take place.”
The federal government reminds Canadians that peaceful demonstrations can turn violent at any time. If you are going to France soon, here are a few reminders:
- Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place
- Monitor local media for the latest information
- Follow the instructions of local authorities, including curfew orders
- Be prepared to adjust your travel plans in the event of disruptions
- Expect heightened security measures and an increased police presence
