In a brand-new ranking from Timeout, Gen Z folks have revealed the best places in the world for their generation to live in.

While there’s plenty of spots from other countries and continents, only one Canadian city made the list. And to add to that, it’s a Metro Vancouver location.

According to Timeout, there were a variety of factors that went into why Gen Z’s voted for which city. For one, Gen Z’s prioritize an active lifestyle, with many of them emphasizing walkability in cities to be a major selling point. Affordability is another factor, as well as interesting events and a potentially rich social life that can be found there.
Among the best cities included Tokyo at the very top. Walkability, excellent transportation, and easy access to culture were some of Gen Z’s biggest reasons for wanting to live there. Reportedly, many Gen Z people found a high amount of happiness in their daily Tokyo lives. The nightlife also makes it a great spot, if you enjoy heading out to clubs and bars.
Other top cities were Porto, Melbourne, Edinburg, and Shanghai, which round out the top-5.
Canada’s Only Ranked City: Vancouver
Yes, it’s Vancouver that made it on the list. In fact, it’s the only Canadian city on there!
Friendliness, beautiful nature, and a vast range of budget-friendly activities was why Vancouver was voted as #19. Commercial Drive and Main Street got personal mentions as lovely places for grabbing a drink, and Fox Cabaret was recommended as a fantastic venue. Vancouver is also home to plenty of free or discounted experiences to its museums for students.
88% of Vancouverites had great things to say about the city’s network. Its green space also got some huge kudos, with many locals finding joy in Vancouver’s everyday experiences.
