More than 20,000 Jeep vehicles across Canada have been recalled after officials discovered a potential fire hazard, even when the cars are turned off.

According to Transport Canada, certain Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrid models have a defect in the high-voltage battery system that could cause the vehicle to catch fire while parked and not running.

The Recall

The recall, issued by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), affects the 2022–2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and 2021–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models. In total, 20,753 vehicles are impacted nationwide.

Transport Canada says this new recall replaces a previous one (No. 2024-566). This is because earlier repairs may not have fully fixed the problem. FCA is still developing a permanent solution.

Until repairs are completed, owners are being urged not to charge their vehicles and to park them outdoors, away from buildings or other cars.

This recall is part of a broader wave of electric and hybrid safety checks across the auto industry as manufacturers continue to address issues related to high-voltage battery performance and thermal safety.

If you drive one of these affected models, you should contact your local Jeep dealership or you can visit Transport Canada’s recall database to confirm whether your vehicle is included and what next steps to take.

Stay safe, Vancouver drivers — and maybe keep that plug unplugged for now.
