Is Tim Hortons trying to re-brand itself?
A new Tim Hortons is opening in Toronto this week, but it’s worlds apart from any Tim Hortons you’ve been to.
As soon as you walk into the door, the difference is striking.

Instead of the usual fast-food-level décor, you’ll find chic minimalist designs with a mix of silvers and blues, with red accents.
Rather than the functional-but-unappealing seats and tables, there are navy-blue sofas and high communal tables with bar-seats.

And there’s a dedicated coffee-oriented bar that serves all the classics, on top of more artisinal options, such as nitro-infused cold brew, matcha lattes, as well various milks and milk-alternatives.
Have complaints about Tim Hortons food? Those are different here, too, with sammies like Tuscan Caprese, Italian Muffuletta, Montreal Smoked Meat, and Bistro Roast Beef.

Soups have also gotten an upgrade, with options like Broccoli Cheese, Mushroom Cream, Thai Green Curry Chicken, and Lobster Bisque.
Even the donuts, Tim Hortons’ bread and butter, have received changes. “Dream Donuts” that include flavours such as PB&J, Cranberry Orange, and Maple Bacon are now on the menu, as well as “Dream Timbits” like Cookies N’ Cream, Coffee Crumble, and Chocolate Truffle.

If this doesn’t sound like Tim Hortons, perhaps that’s the point. It’s more like Tim Hortons, with the classier-look of Cactus Club or Earls. Even the cutlery and chinaware is different.
Earlier this month, as a possible strategy to re-fresh their dining experience, Tim Hortons introduced Beyond Burgers to their menu. With this new “innovation cafe”, it’s gone to another level.
Perhaps this is a preview of the direction Tim Hortons wants to go in the near-future?
