Gas prices have steadily increased in Metro Vancouver over the past couple of months; however, it doesn’t look like dropping down anytime soon.
In fact, petroleum analysts are predicting that fuel charges will spike over Canada Day long weekend. Some meters may be climb 3 cents higher by Monday.
Earlier this year, Metro Vancouver pump prices broke North American records. Only a week prior, the previous record was broken when some stations showed 157.9 cents per litre.
Now, a big demand over Canada and the Fourth of July are driving costs back up.
Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst, spoke to Global News about the upcoming spike.
“Starting at midnight Friday night and into Saturday, Sunday and Monday you’ll see a lot of stations converting over to 160.9 at the high end,” he told them.

As a result of these soaring costs, Langley RCMP have seen a surge in the number of thieves drilling into gas tanks and siphoning out fuel. Sadly, replacing a gas tank, especially on larger vehicles, may cost thousands of dollars.
In addition, the B.C. Taxi association want to implement a surcharge to cover costs associated with the costs.
