It may be hard to fathom that one place offers a post-card pretty village in addition to a natural, geological wonderland; however, Woss Lake does just that.

Situated on Vancouver Island in the Nimpkish Valley, the village of Woss truly enchants its visitors. For one, the charming locale is nestled in the forests just north of a stunningly beautiful lake.

Woss Lake is long and narrow, stretching for roughly 10 kilometres south of the village. With sparkling, crystal waters, the lake is ideal for include fishing, canoeing and kayaking. In addition, visitors may enjoy remote hiking and camping within the undeveloped wilderness.

While the village is beautiful, an impressive geological formation is located just 20 minutes away. Little Huson Caves Park contains 15 known caves, many of which are explorable without having to venture underground.

What’s more, the caves have an array of beautiful karst features. For example, many of the caves have ‘scallops’ – places where the surface of rock has rippled from the impact of rushing water. The Vanishing River Cave has a stunning large cathedral entrance with a flowing creek inside.

Interestingly, nearly 4% of Vancouver island was formed by the erosion of soluble rocks. As a result, it has a predominantly subterranean landscape. With over 1,000 caves, it isn’t hard to fathom why Vancouver Island is coined ‘The Island of Caves.

Travel tip: Never go caving alone! Even if you feel compelled to explore the mysterious caverns alone, this is a horrible idea. Not only are conditions a bit more dangerous in them, but you won’t be easy to find. And, even if you bring a pal, ensure someone knows your estimated time of return.

There many magical places to discover on Vancouver Island. A couple include: a rope swing at the end of a hike on Vancouver Island and a triple tumbling waterfall.
