After Newleaf just combined forces with Flair Air to introduce cheaper airfare in Canada, a second airline has announced they will also provide discount air.
As the second largest airline in Canada, WestJet Airlines already has a hold on a large chunk of the market. They are also quickly expanding their international market, and recently introduced direct service to Huatulco, Mexico.
In April they announced that they would also be a provider of bargain airfare with a new, discounted brand. They say that the fares will be as much as 40% less than their current offerings.
As of Wednesday, September 27th, they announced that their new line will be called Swoop.

The new name will appear in bold, neon pink letters across the white planes, and promises to provide a viable alternative to expensive tickets; however, there are a couple of catches.
WestJet At A Discount: Important Considerations
While the ticket itself is cheap, they are a completely “a la carte” brand. This means that anything extra, including luggage, a heat-set on the plane, or even just printing your boarding pass at the airport, will come with an extra fee.
Also, because they are hoping to hold as many passengers as possible on each plane for the low fares, they will sacrifice extra leg-room for additional seats. Say goodbye to leg stretching!
WestJet says it will release its schedule in June for the its first flights in the summer of 2018.
