Canadians have a new way of buying groceries thanks to an expansion in the grocery delivery program between Walmart and Instacart.

Consumers can now shop from Walmart’s selection of produce and other groceries via Instacart’s website or mobile app. Deliveries can arrive as quickly as within the hour, and orders can scheduled five days in advance.

The program originally spawned from a pilot program last year involving 17 stores in the Toronto and Winnipeg region.

Presumably, the program was successful, as the program has now expanded to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Furthermore, a significant amount of Canadian Walmart locations also offer in-store grocery pick-up. Expansions to the list are expected by January 2020.

“Expanding our relationship with Instacart provides our customers with even more time-saving ways to shop at Walmart in their community”, said Walmart Canada CEO Lee Tappenden.

In addition, to encourage shoppers to try out the program, Walmart and Instacart are offering new customers a $10 discount. Orders must be $35 or more to qualify. Those who would like to take advantage of the savings must enter the following coupon code during checkout: WMTCOAST2COAST.

Walmart operates over 400 “supercentres” across Canada and is one of the two largest retailers in not just the United States, but the entire world.

Their primary rival in the retail market is tech hydra Amazon, which has a grocery delivery program of their own, called AmazonFresh.

Instacart is one of the fastest-growing companies in E-Commerce. They specialize in same-delivery of groceries, and has partnered with retailers like Costco, Sam’s Club, Kroger, and Loblaw.
