Variety Marks 50th Show Of Hearts Telethon

Variety Marks 50th Show Of Hearts Telethon

To some next weekend marks the Feast of Saint Valentine and to others a commercialized romantic Valentine’s Day. But to Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC it marks the 50th Show of Hearts Telethon.

Since inception, the telethon has raised over $180,000,000 for children and families with special needs across British Columbia.

This year’s charity fundraiser which runs February 13th and 14th features a live music venue at The Centre in downtown Vancouver. Saturday features 54-40, Charlie, Aaron Pritchett, Five Alarm Funk, Vancouver TheatreSports League and Sarah McLachlan School of Music. Sunday features Jim Byrnes, Chilliwack, Barney Bentall, Dustin Bentall, Shari Ulrich, and Colleen Rennison. Advance tickets to the concerts are $50 each.

The annual event and 23 hour telecast brings the province together for a great cause. Businesses and community members raise money throughout the year and hold special events. One example is Ricky’s All Day Grill Central City in Surrey which has raised more than $100,000 for Variety since 2006. Their charity event this year will see $5 from every meal donated to Variety as well as proceeds from raffle prize draws.
