If you thought April’s warm weather felt like summer, you’re not alone.
Environment Canada anticipates that last month was the warmest April on record for metro Vancouver. Throughout the month, the lower mainland recorded a mean temperature of 11.9 C, which tops the norm of 9.4 C recorded between 1981 to 2010. The departure of 2.5 C beats the previous record of 11.1 C, which was set in April 2004.
The sizzling weather got going on April 1, when Vancouver topped its previous record of 16.9 C with 18.4 C. Vancouver continued to break records throughout the month, most notably on April 18 and again on April 21.
Temperatures continued to remain high even throughout the night, and broke a record on April 4 with 9.2C. The previous record was set back in 1944 with 8.9 C.
As most can predict, the warm weather ultimately led to one of the driest months on record, with just over 24 millimeters of rain recorded.
Despite the warm and dry months, the reservoir levels didn’t take a big hit according to Metro Vancouver. Regardless, water restrictions will still come into effect two weeks earlier this year on May 15, and remain in effect for two weeks later than usual into fall.
