8 Movies Filming in Vancouver This January

There are at least 8 movies scheduled for filming in and around Vancouver this month including 4 feature films and 4 TV movies.

Stars you can expect to see around town include Anna Kendrick, Candace Cameron Bure, Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges and Katherine Langford.

Noelle

It’s still Christmas time in Vancouver with Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick in the Disney holiday movie Noelle. Kendrick plays Santa’s daughter, Nicole Claus, who has to take over the reins (and reindeer) as old Saint Nick retires. Shirley MacLean, Bill Hader and Billy Eichner also co-star. Filming in Vancouver began last October and is scheduled until January 19th. The release date of the movie is slated for November 8, 2019, just in time for next year’s Christmas season.

Bad Times at the El Royale

There’s good times ahead with Bad Times at the El Royale starring Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges, Cailee Spaeny and Cynthia Eriv. The movie is scheduled to shoot from January 29 to April 6, 2018. Director Drew Goddard made his debut in 2012 with The Cabin in the Woods which also starred Chris Hemsworth. He is also known for being an Executive Producer in 2015’s space movie The Martian starring Matt Damon.

Spontaneous

21-year-old Australian actress and 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford plays the female lead in Spontaneous, a sci-fi fantasy film based on the young adult novel of the same name by Aaron Starmer. Filming in scheduled in Vancouver for January 29 to March 2, 2018.

Unabomb

Unabomb starring Viggo Mortensen is still listed in pre-production and is expected to start filming this month, previously slated for fall 2017. Mortensen is known for playing Aragon in The Lord of The Rings franchise as well as for his dramatic roles in movies like The Road, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He stars in this crime-drama manhunt movie about the FBI search for the notorious domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski aka the Unabomber.

Last Month

A number of movies wrapped up filming around town at the end of last December. That includes A Dog’s Way Home, the sequel to A Dog’s Purpose which starred Riverdale‘s KJ Apa. The sequel stars Ashley Judd, Edward James Olmos, Wes Studi and more. There are currently three novels in the book series by W. Bruce Cameron. Peace starring Vancouver’s own Alexander Ludwig, known for his role in History Channel’s Vikings also wrapped up after a couple weeks in town.

Over half-a-dozen TV movies wrapped up filming in town last month including Frozen in Love starring Rachael Leigh Cook and The Heart of the Mountain starring Dean Cain, Kristin Booth and Kristy Swanson.

Coming Month

WhatsFilming reports a number of movies are scheduled to start filming in town over the coming months. Next month includes: A Score to Settle starring Nicolas Cage and an untitled Bermuda Triangle movie from Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot and newly wed to Emmy Rossum. All My Tomorrows is scheduled for March while Cowboy Ninja Viking starring Chris Pratt is scheduled for June (with a release date of June 28, 2019).
