Have you ever gotten a parking ticket because you weren’t able to pick up your car from the EasyPark by 6 a.m.? Well, business owners in the Granville Entertainment District and Davie Village are looking to change that by adding extended parking hours.

Extended Parking Hours

The two neighbourhoods that make up the Hospitality Vancouver Association (HVA) want to extend parking hours in downtown Vancouver.

Councillor Lisa Dominato brought the motion forward to City Council and received unanimous support.

The HVA says having extended hours would encourage impaired drivers to leave their vehicles overnight and find safer routes home.

Dominato’s motion suggests using a “park until” feature. The feature allows drivers to leave their cars parked overnight and pay for parking in advance for the next morning.

“We all need to continue to work towards ensuring there are safe late-night transportation options for patrons and workers in Vancouver,” said Christa Montpetit, Executive Director, Hospitality Vancouver Association in a release.

Staff from City Council are already working with EasyPark to explore the options that are available. The goal is to extend overnight parking hours beyond 6 a.m. in all 125 EasyPark facilities around Vancouver.
