Vancouver Film Critics Circle Names Best of 2015 - New Movie About Robert Pickton’s Victims To Begin Filmed in Vancouver

When all the nominations were in, The Revenant lead all films in the international selection with three nominations by the Vancouver Film Critics Circle. The biographical western thriller drama was partly filmed in British Columbia, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and stars Leonardo DiCaprio. It was nominated for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Director but walked away with a goose’s egg.

Instead, the Best Film category went to Spotlight – a gripping journalism procedural drama about a dark and polarizing time in the history of the state of Massachusetts. Director Tom McCarthy was tasked with adapting a series of stories by the real Spotlight Team at The Globe which earned the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. The journalists investigated sexual abuse of children by Roman Catholic priests, discovered a pattern and the on-going cover up.

The star studded cast includes Canadian actress Rachel McAdams along with Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and Stanley Tucci. Last year the VFCC selected Boyhood as Best Film which also received six Academy Award nominations and five Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Motion Picture – Drama.
