Now that summer is here it’s time to spend more time outside! Vancouver has so many beautiful parks to offer, it can be hard to choose a favourite. There are some parks, however, that not everyone may know about. Here is a list of some of the under the radar parks Vancouver has to offer.

Crab Park
Located at 101 East Waterfront Road. This hidden park park features an off leash area for dogs, two playgrounds, and a water park. This park is easy to get to, and is about a 15 minuet walk from downtown. Crab Park is perfect for lying on the beach, taking your dog for a walk, or take in the view of the mountains. George Wainborn Park
Located  at 500 Beach Crescent in Yaletown. This little park has tons of space for plenty of sun lovers. It’s perfect for bringing a blanket and a book, and just relaxing while taking in the view of False Creek and the city. There is also a small playground for children. Although dogs must be on a leash at all times, George Wainborn Park is the perfect place to take your whole family and have a picnic. (Image via bccondos)

New Wesminster Pier Park
Located along the Fraser River in New West. This long strip features a 600 meter water front boardwalk, festival lawn, concession, elevated viewpoints, grass, trees, gardens, benches, accessible picnic tables, two sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, public art and two preschool aged playgrounds. Although somewhat hidden, you can see the park when leaving Columbia via Skytrain and heading to Scott Road station. (Image via thliving)

New Brighton Park
Located at 3201 New Brighton Road. This park has something for everyone. New Brighton Park features an off leash area for dogs, an outdoor swimming pool, a soccer field, picnic sites, four tennis courts, a concession stand, and two playgrounds. Brownsville Bar Park
Located at 11931 Old Yale Road, Surrey (right underneath the Pauttlo Bridge). This park is great for summer barbeques, fishing and features an off leash area for dogs + a walking loop. (Image via cityofsurrey)



Whytecliff Park
Located near Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. This park is great for hosting barbeques, as there is tons of space. Whytecliff Park also offers space for outdoor sports. There are two tennis courts, as well as a grassy field, perfect for kids to run around on. Hiking is also popular at this location. You can also go swimming in the ocean or go underwater diving.

Emery Barnes Park
Located at 1170 Richards Street. This family friendly park has an off leash area for dogs and a playground. This park, situated in the middle of Yaletown is a perfect hidden oasis, perfect for taking a break from city life. Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park
Located at Fraser River Park Dr, Byrne Rd. This riverfront park is just past an industry area and a perfect getaway for those seeking privacy. It offers a small playground, formal picnic area and lots of grass. The area has a large amount of trees so it makes it a great spot if you’re looking to play sports on the field or a picnic in the shade. (Image via japanair)
