Four Canadian universities have made the ‘Top Schools in the World’ list with one from the 604.
The University of British Columbia, along with the University of Toronto, McGill University, and McMaster University have ranked in the top 100 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2014 list.
The Canadian universities rank as follows:
- University of Toronto (24th)
- University of British Columbia (37th)
- McGill (67th)
- McMaster (90th)
UBC bumped up three spots from 40. U of T also bumped up 4 spots. McGill dropped 9 spots from 58.
Each ranking is determined by number of staff, alumni who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals. The list also takes into account other prestigious awards, numbers of papers published, and highly-cited researchers.
In the ranking, the top-rated institution are given a score of 100, and all the other ones are rated as a percentage of that score.
The top spots on the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2014 list were claimed by:
- University of Oxford (9th) (tie)
- University of Chicago (9th) (tie)
- Columbia University (8th)
- California Institute of Technology (7th)
- Princeton University (6th)
- University of Cambridge (5th)
- University of California, Berkely (4th)
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3rd)
- Stanford University (2nd)
- Harvard University (1st)
