Crowding on skytrains in Metro Vancouver is a huge problem, especially during peak hours. Many people force their way into crowded trains on their daily commute, while others wait for less crowded options to appear.

Translink announced on Wednesday, October 4th that there is help on the way. They stated that 56 new cars are in production and to help ease some of the crowding.

They have also given student riders the opportunity to travel for free during the first week of October.

The trains won’t be available until the end of 2018, but they will add some much needed relief during rush hour commuting.

Translink said that some of the trains are up to 30 years old, and that the new additions will help with the expansion of Metro Vancouver transit. Not only will they look nicer, but they will run more efficiently, as well.

The ten year vision plan will see an investment of 2 billion dollars from Metro Vancouver mayors to help make improvements in local transit.

Translink is trying out various forms of transportation in order to improve transit in the lower mainland. They are trying out double decker buses in Vancouver to see if the higher buses are a viable option for the city’s ever-growing population.
