There’s nothing better than going ice skating on a cold winter day—it’s the perfect activity to get you in the holiday spirit. If you’re looking to further set the scene, check out some of these outdoor ice rinks in British Columbia.
Outdoor Skating Rinks In British Columbia
This quaint ice rink is conveniently located downtown near the Vancouver Art Gallery. It opened on December 1st and will stay open throughout the holidays, including Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s free if you bring your own skates and rentals are available for a $4 charge. There’s also a concession stand that offers warm drinks and snacks. Take a break from your Christmas shopping and check it out at Robson Square.
Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval
This 400 metre long track is used by speed skaters and anyone who likes to skate. It’s located behind the CN Centre in Prince George. They have times intended for speed skaters and others where it’s designated for all ages and skill levels. Admission is $2 for a day pass.
Whistler Olympic Plaza Skating Rink
Relive the 2010 Winter Olympics at this skating rink in the heart of Whistler Village. This rink offers breathtaking views of surrounding mountains, twinkling Christmas lights and the Olympic Rings. Admission is free and skate rentals are available for $5. They also have a special event where you can skate with Santa on Dec. 20th. The rink is open now until April, so gather your friends, grab some hot chocolate and hit the ice.
In Vernon you can find this outdoor ice rink that offers free public skating for all ages. They also provide group and private skating lessons for children and adults. They have special skate times for shinny and ringette; where you can practice your hockey skills.
Grouse Mountain Ice Skating Pond
It’s hard to beat skating high above the city on top of a mountain. Grab your skates and head up to Grouse Mountain to enjoy the 8,000 square foot ice skating pond. It’s the only one of its kind in the West Coast. The skating pond is open now until April, and access to it is complimentary with a Grouse Mountain Alpine experience admission ticket, membership, winter pass or lift ticket. Skates are available for rent at the Fireside Hut.
