Surrey Teacher Wins Over $90,235 On Jeopardy In Three-Day Streak

“You would think that because a great deal of our material on Jeopardy is about the United States, a player from Canada, a foreigner, Ali Hasan, would be at a disadvantage. But to yesterday, he was the only one who came up with the correct response in final jeopardy,” joked host Alex Trebec.

Meet Ali Hasan, a high school teacher from British Columbia, who has won about $67,801 USD (90,235 CAD) in his first three days on the game show Jeopardy.

Who Is Ali Hasan?

Hasan hails from New Westminster, and teaches computer science at Guildford Park Secondary in Surrey.

His original plan had been to go to Seattle to audition for Jeopardy. He had just gotten his Canadian citizenship, having originally been from Bahrain.

The train station Hasan was at had to check his citizenship which took about five hours, which meant he ended up missing his train.

Hasan ended up auditioning in San Francisco, where he landed his spot on the show.
