The iconic Stanley Park Fish House Restaurant has been sitting vacant since last year.

The Vancouver Park Board is now voting on a new tenant to take over the location—with Stanley Park Brewing mentioned as a strong contender to nab the spot.

There have been discussions over the past few months with Stanley Park Brewing in regards to returning to their original home. Their first brewery was located near Stanley Park’s Lost Lagoon in 1897.

The former Fish House Restaurant is the most ideal spot for the brand to tell its story and offer a unique dining and beer tasting experience to locals and tourists alike.

Stanley Park Brewing proposed a unique concept to celebrate the spirit of the park with quality food and beer that is produced on-site.

Considering the area is known as a heritage site, the brewing company is committed to maintaining and enhancing the remaining heritage elements in their design.

New services and amenities will be added in to refresh the building, such as: improved accessibility, upgraded public washrooms, covered decks, a new bike service station and an enhanced concession area.

Significant improvements will be made to the interior, including: installing brewing chambers, developing a retail sales space, a tasting room, a renovated bar, upgraded dining area and a space to host special events.

The restaurant will have a full service menu designed to complement the beer brewed on-site and should hold a capacity of about 250 patrons.

The project will cost the Stanley Park Brewing Co. approximately $4.5M. They feel the location is the best spot to showcase the eco-driven brewing process of their craft beers that are inspired by the rich history of Stanley Park.
