The Metropolis at Metrotown isn’t the only Metro Vancouver mall with a teardown in its future. Indeed, The City of Richmond just announced that plans are in the works to completely redevelop Landsdowne Centre.

Vanprop Investments owns the central shopping centre; the group have stated that they plan to tear down the structure and replace it with numerous high rise towers. In fact, the developer has big plans for the 50 acrea area that is framed by No. 3 Road to the west.

In addition to revamping the mall, Richmond has plans to redevelop many areas of the city, and very soon. For example, Capstan Station, located near No.3 Road, is moving ahead with construction after getting an impressive $3.5 million from the city.

The plans include the creation of 24 mid-rise towers, reaching mid-rise heights of no more than 154 ft, with podiums. 22 residential towers of these towers will be allocated for residencies. In addition, two towers will be office buildings with a total floor area of over six million sq. ft., creating a floor area ratio (FAR) density of 2.77 FAR.

Also, approximately one-fifth of the area will become a designated public park for events and community gatherings.

Plans also include a building for the City of Richmond, such as a community centre, that would be constructed near the corner of Lansdowne and No. 3 Road.
