An Olympic medalist has offered to row Greta Thunberg to Victoria this week, to avoid using fossil fuelled ferries to get there.
The 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist was invited to Victoria when she’s scheduled to be in BC later this week. However, the means of transportation may have caused an issue.
“Last week, [Coun.] Ben Isitt contacted a person who is helping with Thunberg’s visit in Canada,” Helps told CTV News. “He said that the absence of a fossil fuel-free option was a major obstacle to visiting the island.”
Thunberg said via Instagram, Tuesday night, that she wasn’t actually aware of the invitation. She added she has “definitely not declined because of ’emissions’ from the public transport ferry.”
But that hasn’t stopped B.C. citizens from offering solutions.
Gold Olympic medalist Adam Kreek offered to help by rowing Thunberg from Vancouver to Victoria.
“I’m throwing my oars in the ring,” he said to CTV News. He mentioned that Thunberg’s organization is considering his offer.
Thunberg will be in Vancouver Friday to join in on the city’s fourth climate strike, this time at Vancouver Art Gallery. The latest protest begin will begin at 11:00 am.
