New Westminster Police Department: Robbery Incident Details
According to a social media post from the NWPD, the incident occurred on February 15 at approximately 1:45pm. The NWPD received a 9-1-1 call from a good Samaritan who was providing aid to an elderly woman, who was in distress and looking for police assistance.
On the 1200 block of Dan Lee Avenue, the NWPD learned that the victim was a 90-year-old woman. Reportedly, she was walking in the area when a stranger approached her. The stranger pulled jewelry off her arm, and caused her an injury before pushing her to the ground. The woman was given support as officers canvassed the area for CCTV footage of the incident.
Sergeant Andrew Leaver said, ““Watching the CCTV footage was deeply disturbing. A grown man used his strength and size against a 90 year old woman. That is disgraceful and cowardly behaviour.”
The post notes that the suspect is described as a 5’11” tall man. He has a heavy set build, and weighed approximately 260 pounds. He wore a beige hooded sweater, grey pants, black shoes with white soles, and a surgical mask.
If you witnessed this incident and have not yet shared the details with police, you are asked to call 604-525-5411 and reference file 26-2730.
