Japanese retailer MUJI announces the opening of its eighth store in Canada on Monday, April 16th.
Located in the CF Richmond Centre Shopping Mall, it will be the the third store in British Columbia. In addition, the store will occupy an impressive 6,355 square feet of retail space.
The store’s grand opening is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28th. On Saturday and Sunday, the first 500 customers will receive a limited edition MUJI Richmond Centre tote bag with a purchase of $20 or more.
And, if prior openings are any indication, it will be busy.
Indeed, when the Metropolis at Metrotown got its first store, people had to wait in very long lines. Further, that 8,000 square foot location continues to drive steady business.
“There are many people who already know about MUJI in the Richmond area,” says Toru Akita, president of MUJI Canada.
“We’ve received many requests to open a store in Richmond. After considering different locations, we are pleased that we finally found the right place. Although the store is smaller than the other locations in British Columbia, we will still offer a wide variety of products as well as the latest store experience. I sincerely hope that the people of Richmond will visit and love our store.”
Although it originated in Japan, MUJI is hugely popular the world over. The trendy store sells everything from clothing to home decor to stationery. They have a very simple and natural style, and are praised for their high quality products and design.
Mujirushi Ryohin, MUJI in Japanese, translates as “no-brand quality goods.” The brand was founded in Japan in 1980. Now, it currently has over 800 stores worldwide that carry more than 7,000 items.
