The historic town of Cloverdale is one of Surrey’s main town centres with a population of over 70,000. With its farming community roots and charming town vibe, film and television sets are frequent to the area. Netflix’s reboot of the beloved Sabrina the Teenage Witch character is filming in Cloverdale this year.

Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Jennifer’s Body starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried filmed around Metro Vancouver during 2008 at multiple secondary schools, Riverview Hospital, The Sutton Place Hotel, Robert Burnaby Park and at the historic Clova Cinema in Cloverdale. The theater known for its vintage vibe permanently closed down in 2017.

Try Seventeen (2002)


Try Seventeen starring Elijah Wood, Franka Potente and Mandy Moore filmed around Metro Vancouver during the spring of 2002. The horse racing track scenes were filmed at Fraser Downs Racetracks located at Elements Casino on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.

Hot Rod (2007)


Hot Rod starring SNL alums Andy Samberg and Bill Hader, Danny McBride and Isla Fisher filmed in Burnaby, Surrey, Cloverdale, Anmore, Vancouver and North Vancouver during the summer of 2006. The summer comedy used the Cloverdale Supermarket as a store and portions of 176th street for riot and stunt scenes.

Deck the Halls (2006)

Deck the Halls starring Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth filmed in Vancouver, Surrey, White Rock, New Westminster and Coquitlam during the summer of 2006 and was released that November. The Christmas comedy gave Cloverdale a little Christmas in the summer with decorations and fake snow.
Postal (2007)
Postal is an action comedy adaptation of a video game. It filmed in Cloverdale and Vancouver during the fall of 2006.
Television
When you think of Cloverdale and television, there is one show that really put the town on the map: Smallville. Parts of Cloverdale and Merritt doubled as the downtown Main Street of Smallville. Did you know? The popular music festival Lollapalooza originally toured North America and stopped in Cloverdale during 1994. The Cloverdale Fairgrounds hosted The Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, A Tribe Called Quest and more.
